ICC Annual Conference 2025 Set for Singapore

The ICC Annual Conference 2025 will take place in Singapore during the third week of July, marking a significant event for global cricket. Chaired by Jay Shah, the new ICC Chairman, the conference will address critical proposals on playing conditions and governance. Hosted in the constituency of ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khwaja, the event follows planning meetings in Zimbabwe.

Key Discussions at ICC Annual Conference 2025

The ICC is considering a Working Group to review recommendations from the Cricket Committee, led by Sourav Ganguly. Proposals include using a single ball from the 25th over in ODIs to revive reverse swing. Another suggestion is introducing in-game clocks in Test cricket to ensure 90 overs daily, with a 60-second limit between overs, similar to white-ball formats.

Proposed Format Changes

The Ganguly-led panel also recommends shifting the men’s Under-19 World Cup to a T20 format, aligning with the women’s event. Currently, the men’s tournament follows a 50-over structure. The ICC plans to form a Working Group soon to evaluate these ideas thoroughly, ensuring they benefit the sport’s growth.

World Cricket Association Talks

Initial discussions on the World Cricket Association (WCA) occurred at the Chief Executives’ Committee level. The WCA, formerly FICA, seeks governance restructuring and financial model reviews. However, its influence is limited, as major boards like the BCCI do not recognize it. Only a few Full Member boards have affiliated with the WCA, and consensus leans toward individual boards engaging their players directly.

Looking Ahead

The ICC Annual Conference 2025 in Singapore will shape cricket’s future, with decisions on rules and governance under scrutiny. As Jay Shah leads his first conference, the outcomes will reflect the ICC’s vision for balancing tradition and innovation in the sport.
